If the recent reports on Indian Anesthesiologists are to be believed, there are nearly 10,000 qualified and registered anesthesiologists while over one lakh are required to be trained in the country today. A trained anesthesiologist has diversified roles in medicine, and work with a number of super specialties especially the post-operative treatment of critical patients and offer services in neuro, pediatric and cardiac anesthesia besides pain and palliative services to relieve the pain of critically ill patients.

Should we be worried about this persisting and widening gap between the demand and the supply of qualified anesthesiologists in the country?
