India Heart Study (IHS) has revealed that 42% of Indians are at risk due to misdiagnosis of hypertension. This may result in masked hypertension or white-coat hypertension and may be associated with the complications for heart, kidney, and brain, leading to premature mortality. Therefore, accurate diagnosis of hypertension is an important element to improve health outcomes. This study has highlighted the high prevalence of masked hypertension and white-coat hypertension in Indians on the first clinic visit.
