Hypoglycemia in preschool children limits the effectiveness of insulin therapy. Insulin pump therapy in children and adolescents have shown improvements in key parameters of diabetes management including quality of life. Moreover, the theoretical advantage of insulin pump therapy is its ability to mimic physiological insulin release and meet physiological insulin needs in people with insulin deficiency. Dr. Annika Janson is the former Head of the Section for Diabetes, Endocrinology, Metabolic Disease and Obesity (DEMO) at the Karolinska University Hospital.
Her research focuses on clinical studies in ketoacidosis, insulin pumps therapy and bariatric surgery in adolescents.
