International Epilepsy Day is observed on the second Monday of February, each year. This special event has reached more than 130 countries and has been a joint initiative of the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE). People from all over the world come together to voice and acknowledge the struggles of families and people affected by epilepsy.
The aim of observing this day is to bring awareness of the population towards epilepsy, the needs of an epileptic person, the possible treatments, the healthcare facilities available, and any newer development in the area that would ease and improve the quality of life.
