Intraocular inflammation (IOI) is a rare but potentially vision-threatening complication of intravitreal anti-VEGF therapy, yet real-world data on IOI following aflibercept 8 mg remain limited. To address this gap, a real world study evaluated a cluster of aflibercept 8 mg associated IOI, evaluating clinical characteristics and outcomes in 12 eyes from 10 patients. The study found that intraocular inflammation occurred a mean of 1.9 Β± 0.6 days after aflibercept 8 mg injection, most commonly in patients treated for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (80%) and diabetic macular edema (20%).
IOI developed after a mean of 2.3 Β± 1.6 injections, with 91.7% of eyes previously exposed to anti-VEGF therapy without IOI, including aflibercept 2 mg in 66.7%. Intermediate uveitis was the most frequent presentation (66.7%), followed by anterior and posterior uveitis (each 16.7%), with anβ¦
