Cognitive and exercise training are known to reduce the decline in physical and cognitive performance among the aging population. Now, a study investigated the impact of Brain Endurance Training (BET), a combination of cognitive and physical exercise, on cognitive and physical performance in 24 fresh and fatigued sedentary women aged 65 to 78. In the study, BET and physical exercise groups performed resistance and endurance exercises. Additionally, the BET group engaged in cognitive training, while the control group had no training.
BET enhanced cognitive and physical performance in fatigued women better than physical exercise. Significantly, BET improved cognitive performance by 3.7% and 7.8% in fresh and fatigued women, respectively, compared to the exercise group (3.6% and 4.5%) and the control group (-0.4% and 0.3%).
