A doctor and a staff nurse are among seven people arrested in Karnataka's Gadag district in connection with the alleged repeated sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman with mental illness and the subsequent termination of her three-month pregnancy. According to police, the investigation initially involved allegations against two men for sexual assault and three others for carrying out the abortion. As the investigation progressed, police identified four men allegedly involved in the sexual assault on different days and at different locations.

Police said the woman became pregnant and was three months pregnant when her parents learned about the incident.
