The Kerala High Court has instructed the state government to ensure ongoing medical care and free education for a nine-year-old girl who lost her right hand following complications reportedly arising from treatment at the Government District Hospital in Palakkad. As part of the directive, the state must cover the child’s healthcare needs and educational expenses until she turns 21. The court observed that the girl, who belongs to an economically disadvantaged family, appeared to have suffered the consequences of serious shortcomings in her initial medical management.
