I recently read a book "When Breath Becomes Air" by Dr. Paul Kalanithi. At the age of 36, while he was a neurosurgery resident at Stanford, Dr. Kalanithi was diagnosed with lung cancer. At that only moment, he realized that he would have to wear a patient gown instead of a surgical one. The diagnosis made him ask questions about his survival and that too for how long?
This book by Dr. Kalanithi is a philosophical sort, the kind of introspection many of us feel like doing which happens when forced upon us by tragedy. His writing is honest, highly intriguing, beautiful, and touches philosophical aspect of medicine, especially neurosurgery. The book compels us to think about life, a number of possibilities it offers, and finally "what makes human life meaningful in the face of death", as continuously asked by Dr. Kalanithi. Are there any other books, philosophies you have ever come across…
