The optimum management approach of glucose concentrations during perioperative period is not very clear. A recent study evaluated the effect of low intraoperative rate on ketogenesis and postoperative insulin resistance. Intraoperative low-dose glucose infusions generally suppress ketogenesis process and decrease postoperative insulin resistance. However, the most appropriate rate of intraoperative glucose infusion is not clear.
