The major depressive disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of mortality and disability in moderate to high-income countries. It is evidenced that individuals with the MDD often present with increasing persistence of major depressive episodes. Moreover, diagnosed depressive patients are mostly treated with antidepressants, psychotherapy and the untreated individuals suffer from recurrent depressive episodes as they get older.
