Urethritis is characterized by inflammation of the urethra. Idiopathic urethritis found in pediatric patients has unknown etiology and limited treatment options. This article is a synopsis of a research publication focusing on classification of idiopathic urethritis and use of topical and oral steroids for the management of idiopathic urethritis in children. The unidentified urethritis in children is generally referred as idiopathic urethritis (IU).

It is correlated with dysfunctional elimination syndrome and immunological conditions like Reiter's syndrome but lacks scientific evidence. After getting reported for first time in 1971 various articles have been published on the topic but the treatment of IU in children still remains a challenge.
