Meningiomas are the most common tumors that arise contiguously to the meninges. Although most meningiomas have good long-term prognosis after treatment, there are still controversies over management in a proportion of cases. This article describes the effective approach to the management of meningiomas. Meningiomas are common primary brain tumors in adults and are therefore relevant for general practitioners. They are thought to arise from arachnoidal cap cells which reside in the arachnoid layer covering the surface of the brain and spinal cord.
