Long-term use of metformin may decrease the risk of colorectal cancer in diabetes patients reported a recent clinical study published in a journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention. Various epidemiologic studies have already reported a strong inverse association between metformin use and risk of colorectal cancer. The current cohort clinical study re-examined this link using methods to minimize these time-related biases. The study involved 47,351 with diabetes and without a history of cancer or metformin use.
The follow-up for the incidence of colorectal cancer was conducted from January 1, 1997, to June 30, 2012.
