We moved from protected economy to global economy. The so-called experts demanded that medical profession should be treated like industry and all the benefits like loan and tax relief etc should be given.
Govt agreed. This led to the establishment of private medical colleges and corporate hospitals. Wide publicity of excellent facilities and high-tech care raised the expectations of common people of India. Another term was coined - Medical Tourism.
