India's fertility care sector is set for closer scrutiny after the National Commission for Women (NCW) constituted a multidisciplinary expert committee to review the regulatory framework governing IVF clinics, assisted reproductive technology (ART) centers, and gamete banks. The move comes amid growing concerns about irregularities in the rapidly expanding ART sector and aims to strengthen safeguards for women undergoing fertility treatment. The committee, chaired by a former judge of the Delhi High Court, includes experts from the judiciary, medicine, gynecology, forensic science, law enforcement, public policy, and the Ministry of Health.
