Following the controversial and unprecedented lowering of NEET PG 2025 cut-off marks , it has now emerged that a significant number of candidates sought admission through the non-resident Indian quota. Data released by the Medical Counselling Committee shows that 811 aspirants opted to change their status from Indian to NRI to participate in the third round of postgraduate medical counseling for the 2025โ€“26 academic year. The NRI quota, while carrying the highest fee burden, is known for relatively lower competition and lower cut-offs compared with even management quota seats.

This makes it an attractive pathway for candidates with lower NEET PG scores who are financially capable.
