In order to help identify facilities and to foster competition among government hospitals, Niti Aayog has decided to rank district hospitals on the basis of their performance on measurable health indicators. Hospitals are major consumers of health budgets. There are around 700 district hospitals across the country to provide secondary healthcare facilities to the people. Now, a joint exercise of the health ministry and Niti Aayog will track the performance of district hospitals. The index will also capture the feedback from patients.
An official of Niti Aayog stated that “The framework for ranking district hospitals will focus on achieving key health outcomes.
