Scientists have developed novel drugs that not only relieves pain but also reduces the overdose risk. Generally, the existing painkillers deliver their effect by affecting respiration. This is due to the linking of G-protein linked pathway and breathing suppression pathway i.e. beta-arresting pathway.
The researchers now succeed in unlinking this two pathway by varying "bias" between the two pathways. Although this has been at its preliminary stage, if found successful in humans, can potentially reduce the opioid harms. Do you think, this research would be beneficial for the said purpose?
