A recent decision of the Madras High Court has clarified that the practice of modern medicine in Tamil Nadu is restricted to MBBS-qualified doctors. The ruling came in response to a petition filed by an association whose members hold BMS, CMP, or various medical diplomas and refer to themselves as modern allopathy practitioners. Background of the Petition The association, registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975, claimed to represent around 100 individuals.
Its members have completed BMS, CMP, or diploma-level training from institutes in other States.
