Occupational health The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) defines occupational health (OH) as “the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental, and social well-being of workers in all occupations by preventing deviations from health, controlling risks, and adapting work to people and people to their work positions.” 1,2 Since OH is bound by the law, it is practiced differently in every country. Yet, OH practices worldwide are governed by the guidelines of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the Organization of American States (OAS), which are the major international mainstays.
