A reliable method in orthodontic practice for providing temporary additional anchorage are orthodontic implants. These devices are useful to control skeletal anchorage in less compliant patients or in cases where absolute anchorage is necessary. A wide range of devices may be implanted in and around the jaws therapeutically,or for aesthetic reasons, many of which are not endosseous dental implants. The orthodontic implants are used for specific time periods and do not always have osseointegration.
