Several vaccines have proved to be effective in reducing the severity of symptoms or cases of death related to COVID-19. However, little is known about their ability to slow down the transmission rate of the virus from one person to another. Latest research conducted at the Oxford University has studied the effectiveness of Oxford’s COVID-19 vaccine in reducing virus transmission. According to the study, Oxford’s COVID-19 vaccine was found to slow down the transmission by 67%.

The transmission rate was not measured directly by tracing the contacts infected by study volunteers, but by using regular nasal swabs collected from some participants. It was found that the rate of positive PCR tests fell by 67% after only one dose of the vaccine.
