More than 50 lakh healthcare workers have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine after the mass vaccination drive began in India on January 16, 2021. The latest research conducted at the University of Oxford has found that delaying the second dose of the vaccine improved its efficacy. According to the study published in Preprints with The Lancet , delaying the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine increases protection against the virus. The UK regulator had approved a 12 weeks interval between the two doses based on the interim efficacy results collected from 131 COVID-19 patients.

According to the updated efficacy results collected from 332 COVID -19 patients, a delay in administering the second dose improved the vaccine’s efficacy.
