A major negative consequence in cancer survivors is chronic pain. The estimates are variable, but reports suggest that prevalence of pain in cancer survivors is as high as 40%. It is dependent on the type and invasiveness of the tumor, the treatment approach used, time since cancer treatment, and the effectiveness of initial pain therapy. The current guidelines by American Society of Clinical Oncology suggest recommendations to manage pain in cancer survivor patients.

There are many guidelines available for management of acute pain or pain associated with advanced disease.
