Pakistan is caught with the first known epidemic of typhoid superbug, which is resistant to five types of antibiotics. It has infected at least 850 people since 2016 and the number is rising fast. The experts fear that it could radiate globally, replacing the weaker strains of the disease. Researchers say that only one oral antibiotic is left which is effective against this strain, and with one more genetic mutation, doctors would be powerless to fight it. Poor infrastructure, low vaccination rates and overpopulated city centers all contribute to the spread of typhoid, which is common in the country.
