A pan-India kidney trafficking network with international links to Cambodia and China has been uncovered by a special investigation team (SIT) set up by the Maharashtra government. The probe was initiated after a debt-ridden farmer from Minthur village in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, complained that he was forced to sell his kidney in Cambodia to escape harassment by loan sharks. According to the Chandrapur superintendent of police, the SIT uncovered evidence of illegal kidney transplants carried out both in India and abroad. The racket operated through a well-organized network of agents, donors, doctors, and private hospitals spread across multiple states.
