A 3-year-old girl presented to the emergency department with an ingested metal pendant. Clinical symptoms The patient did not report any incidence of vomiting She had no sign of chest pain Physical examination The physical examination conducted was found to be unremarkable. Radiograph analysis The radiograph analysis of the chest confirmed a heart-shaped foreign body in the proximal thoracic esophagus. Further treatment The patient was further taken to the operating room for undergoing rigid endoscopy and a gold heart-shaped pendant was removed (inset).

Reinspection of the esophagus showed minor abrasions of the esophageal mucosa. After the procedure, the patient recovered well and was discharged.
