A recent study published in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology evaluated the efficacy of 1% pilocarpine monotherapy versus a combination of 1% pilocarpine with 0.09% bromfenac for the treatment of presbyopia. Over an 8-week period involving 115 patients, 44.1% of those receiving pilocarpine alone and 78.6% receiving combination therapy achieved N6 near vision. The combination group also demonstrated superior outcomes in near point of accommodation (NPA) and accommodative amplitude.

Treatment compliance was higher in the combination group (96.4% vs 64.4%), with fewer adverse events reported (1.8% vs 11.9%). The findings suggest that the addition of bromfenac to pilocarpine may enhance visual outcomes, accommodative function, compliance, and tolerability compared with pilocarpine monotherapy. Would you consider combination therapy to improve tolerability and outcomes in presbyopia…
