Partial knee replacement (PKR) and total knee replacement (TKR) are established surgical options for knee osteoarthritis. However, uncertainty persists regarding which procedure offers better long-term results. To address this gap, a study evaluated outcomes of PKR versus TKR in 528 patients with late-stage medial compartment osteoarthritis. At 10 years, both surgeries showed similarly good clinical outcomes, with no clinically meaningful difference in Oxford Knee Scores.
Reoperation rates were comparable between PKR and TKR (9% vs 9% by treatment received, and 8% vs 10% by treatment allocated). Revision rates were also similar (6% vs 4% by treatment received, and 5% vs 5% by treatment allocated). Complication rates showed no major difference, ranging from 22% versus 27% by treatment received to 21% versus 29% by treatment allocated. Importantly, PKR demonstrated greaterβ¦
