6 out of 10 deaths in middle-income countries like India are due to poor quality health care. The report said, that about 50 lakh people die every year in low and middle-income countries, of which highest toll was found in India. According to a study published in the journal The Lancet, over 16 lakh people in India die every year as a result of poor quality of healthcare. The main reason for the loss of life is the insufficiency of primary and hospital healthcare facilities.

Also, researchers from the Lancet Global Health Commission mention that, "though we emphasize on the access to healthcare facilities, but we lag behind in providing good quality of medical facilities". The study reported, 84% cardiovascular deaths, 81% vaccine-preventable diseases and more than 60% of neonatal complications are due to substandard medical care.
