Arterial cannulation in pediatric patients is occasionally difficult despite ultrasound guidance. The radial artery is generally recommended, but alternative sites may be needed, and there is no standard alternative. In this regard, a recent study evaluated posterior tibial artery as an alternative arterial cannulation site to the radial artery in pediatric patients. Arterial cannulation is frequently used for continuous blood pressure monitoring and blood sampling in the operating room and intensive care unit.
