Omeprazole reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach leading to pernicious anaemia in the individual. Is this the ethical way of treating excess acid production? In my opinion, the old method of neutralising the excess acid with antacids is the scientific method. We are not supposed to stifle with natural processes too much. When we do not know the exact mechanism of excess acid production, we cannot resort to this kind of intervention.

We must try to understand the aetiological aspects of all diseases including the excess acid production. Simply refining the treatment methods is unethical.
