Lifestyle interventions are recommended for the management of prediabetes . Achieving prediabetes remission is known to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes. However, whether such remission translates into long-term cardiovascular benefit has remained uncertain. To address this gap, researchers examined the association between prediabetes remission and the risk of cardiovascular death or hospitalization for heart failure (HF) among 2,942 participants enrolled in diabetes prevention studies conducted in the United States and China.

In the US cohort, followed for a median of 20 years, the incidence of cardiovascular death or HF hospitalization was 1.74 per 1,000 person-years among individuals who achieved remission, compared with 4.17 per 1,000 person-years in those who did not.
