Proboscoid Umbilical Hernia (PUH): Umbilical hernia in children had a lot of variabilities from case to case, and from locality to other; one of special entities of UH is the proboscoid one. Definition: A large protuberant umbilical hernia shaped like a proboscis nose, the term derived from the “Proboscis monkey” with its characteristic nose. In Africa, proboscoid umbilical hernias are common, may be well accepted, and treated conservatively by some surgeons, but this variety is not common in Europe, except in association with other syndromes of defective abdominal musculature.
