A recent large-scale consumer survey across India’s major cities has brought an important nutritional concern into focus. Despite increasing health consciousness, protein intake among urban Indians remains strikingly inadequate. The survey collected responses from more than 2.07 lakh individuals across 25 metropolitan areas and urban districts. Its findings suggest that roughly six in ten urban residents do not consume protein-rich foods daily.
Only about 40% reported regularly including common protein sources such as pulses, dairy products, eggs, fish, nuts, or paneer in their everyday meals. Beyond intake, awareness itself appears limited.
