Psoriasis , a chronic systemic inflammatory disease associated with multiple comorbidities, has been implicated in ocular complications; however, its relationship with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains underexplored. To address this gap, a retrospective cohort study analyzed data to assess the risk of developing both exudative and non-exudative AMD compared with matched control groups from 22,901 patients aged over 55.
Over a median period of 15 years, the study found that patients with psoriasis had a 56% higher risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) compared to those with major depressive disorder and a 21% higher risk compared to those with melanocytic nevi.
