Colorectal cancer is the commonest gastrointestinal malignancy postulated that the principal mode of tumour dissemination is via the portal system and therefore that surgical resection of isolated hepatic metastases from colorectal cancer. Operative morbidity and mortality following liver resection are related to the development of hepatic failure that is a function of the extent of resection. There has been increasing recognition of the potential benefits of liver resection for colorectal metastases although the treatment has been established more widely in Western countries.
These guidelines are intended to address a number of issues related to management of hepatic metastases.
