Doctors at Manipal Hospital Dwarka, New Delhi, have successfully performed a robotic nephrectomy on a 19-month-old girl from Mauritius with Congenital Anomalies of the Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT), highlighting the expanding role of robotic surgery in complex pediatric urology. The child had been diagnosed with CAKUT at birth. Her right kidney was severely affected by multicystic dysplastic disease and had become completely non-functional. The enlarged kidney was associated with recurrent febrile urinary tract infections, prompting further evaluation by a multidisciplinary team. After assessing the risks and potential benefits, the team elected to proceed with robotic removal of the damaged kidney.
