Salt restriction is strictly advised to hypertensive patients by doctors. In cold countries, sweating is less and no or very little salt loss. Consumption of water and excretion of salt also less. So, they advocate salt restriction. We should not follow blindly, whatever Whites write or advocate. We should apply all our local conditions, lifestyles, our own knowledge, and understanding before prescribing and treating patients in any branch.

Our country is hot. We sweat a lot, consume lots of water (dilutional hyponatremia), excrete more salt in urine so, there is no point in condemning salt. I don't suggest excessive use, but salt should not be severely restricted in tropical countries. Hypertensives, often complain reeling, dizziness, weakness, muscle cramps, restlessness etc in summer in tropical countries. If we do serum Na and serum chloride, we will understand the problem.
