Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is one of the most common life-threatening infections, with most deaths occurring in developing countries. In Asia, CAP is estimated to cause almost one million adult deaths per year. Furthermore, as the causative pathogen is rarely identified, the antibiotic treatment is generally empirical. 1 In this regard, the current article describes the epidemiology, disease burden, treatment challenges in CAP, and highlights management strategies, especially the IDSA 2019 update for the disease.
