The chronic kidney diseases (CKD) account for 60% of all deaths worldwide. Eighty percent of chronic disease deaths worldwide occur in low- and middle-income countries. In India, the projected number of deaths due to chronic disease was around 5.21 million in 2008 and is expected to rise to 7.63 million in 2020 (66.7% of all deaths). An overview of the criteria, method and associated risk factors for the screening of chronic kidney disease is explained in this article.
