Nursing professionals would be soon allowed to prescribe medicines, conduct invasive procedures under the supervision of senior doctors. As per the order of the government, the Indian Nursing Council, the regulatory body for nurses, has prepared a draft bill to amend a 1947 Act, which would upgrade the rights of practicing nurse to global standards. The provisions of the programme would allow the nurse staff, who are registered and educated to a master’s degree level, to prescribe medicines for primary care and conduct invasive procedures in the presence of senior doctors. It is expected to include a new examination process to issue nursing licences.
