A recent news about sudden fee hike of 300% by an Uttarakhand Medical College has sparked outrage among students. The college decided to increase the MBBS tuition fee from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs 19.76 lakh for the first year. This is said to be the result of a bill cleared by Uttarakhand assembly giving free hand to the private medical colleges and universities on the fee structure for undergraduate and post-graduate courses ( Hindustan Times 10 April 2018 ).

Poor students and the students belonging to general quota are the most affected by such unreasonable hikes in fees. What is fee regulation authority doing? I think private colleges should not have the power to regulate fees without a regulating authority’s consent. Source: Indian Express
