A recent a population-based cohort study of women on long-term Bisphosphonates (BP) therapy that evaluated the rate of hip fracture following a drug holiday reported that those women stopping BP treatment for more than 2 years were 40% more likely to develop hip fractures. The study was presented at the American College Of Rheumatology. Study design Inclusion criteria: The study included all the women who initiated a BP and were at least 80% adherent to their BP treatment for ≥3 years were identified, and data were collected from them. Exclusion criteria: The patients who were on other bone therapies such as on denosumab, estrogen, teriparatide, calcitonin was excluded from the study.
