COVID-19 vaccine-induced immune responses in hematologic malignancy patients have not been adequately studied, despite their increased susceptibility to the infection. A longitudinal study compared immune responses generated by BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine doses in healthy control and patients with multiple myeloma and B-cell lymphoma (treated group). The treated group demonstrated only a slightly lower neutralization capacity against SARS-CoV-2 variants as compared to the control , despite the much lower antibody titers to the spike protein.
Between the second and third doses, the treated group showed 20.8 fold higher neutralization capacity per anti-spike antibody unit than the control group and higher avidity of serum IgG to the spike protein.
