Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a multifactorial disease that causes reduced tear production, leading to inadequate lubrication in the eyes. Epidemiological findings suggest that the prevalence of DED is increasing worldwide. DED is often easily treated and can occur due to underlying conditions like autoimmune diseases that require early diagnosis and prompt treatment to prevent future complications. According to a study published in the journal BMC Ophthalmology, around two-third of Dubai residents suffer from DED.

The study was conducted on 452 participants who were students and staff at Mohammad bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and the staff at a leading hospital in Dubai.
