India’s stroke burden is no longer an abstract public health statistic. It is showing up in hospital corridors every day, and a new analysis from the Indian Council of Medical Research National Stroke Registry Programme puts real numbers behind what many physicians are already seeing in practice. Using data from the Hospital-Based Stroke Registries across 30 centers, investigators analyzed 34,792 stroke cases recorded between 2020 and 2022 under the Indian Council of Medical Research National Stroke Registry Programme. The mean age of patients was 59.4 years.
Notably, 13.8% were younger than 45 years. Men accounted for 63.4% of cases, and 72.1% of patients were from rural areas.
