A study has revealed the microplastic contaminations in famous Indian salt and sugar brands. The study was conducted by a not-for-profit environmental research organization using ten salt samples and five sugar samples. The study analyzed different salts purchased at local and online stores, including table, sea, rock, and raw salts. The analysis revealed the presence of various forms of microplastics, such as fibers, pellets, films, and fragments, in all the salt and sugar samples.

These microplastic contaminants ranged in size from 0.1 mm to 5.0 mm. The microplastic concentration ranged from 6.71 to 89.15 pieces/kg among the salt samples. The highest microplastic concentration was detected in iodized salt, while the lowest was in organic rock salt. Similarly, the microplastic concentration in the sugar samples ranged from 11.85 to 68.25 pieces/kg, with the highest level ofโ€ฆ
