Case presentation A 26-year-old man presented with pain and swelling in the left knee and was not able to bear weight on the left side after a fall from a motorbike. On examination Left knee β Contusion over the anterior aspect, diffuse swelling, and tenderness Not able to actively extend the knee from a semi-flexed knee position X-rays β A displaced, T-shaped patella fracture, lower half longitudinally split into two (Cover image 1) Treatment The lower half of the patella was reconstructed using cannulated cancellous screws along with tension band wiring (TBW) with K and steel wires with anatomical articular reduction (Cover image 2).
Two weeks following the reconstruction surgery, the patient slipped from the stairs and sustained an injury in the same knee joint. The radiograph following this showed that the TBW reconstruction was disintegrated and grossly re-displaced the fractureβ¦
